Of all the times to go to Washington D.C - peak summer. The heat was almost unbearable, even to us coming from very hot Thailand. This meant reshuffling of plans, taking more breaks, using more cabs and generally just doing the best we could to see as much as possible.
Day 1
Just 2 days in hand, we really wanted to see as much of "The Mall" as possible but as walking it was no longer viable, we did the next best thing and booked a small electric car tour for the morning.
It was still very hot but at least we saw a lot while avoiding too much walking in the sun!

The afternoon heat had us sheltering and exploring the National Air and Space Museum( for which we had pre booked our tickets) as well as The National Gallery of Art.

By evening we were exhausted from the intense heat and decided to call it a day and just relax at our hotel- it meant skipping the walk to see the monuments by night but at this point we were done!
Day 2
We had pre booked tickets to go to the top of the Washington Monument ,go on a guided tour of the Capitol Building and view The White House today.
The first two were great but the White House left me underwhelmed- maybe it was the current incumbent or maybe it was just watching too many Hollywood movies, but it just felt small and not that special. Still we ticked that box dutifully!

The interiors were beautiful but much of it was, as expected, closed for visitors.

Again it had been a sweltering day and we had walked a lot in the intense heat so the evening was spent recovering in the hotel, before a lovely seafood dinner at the Wharf fish market. A relaxing stroll and a drink at the waterfront and it was the end of our short trip to DC!
Thoughts on Washington DC
Hmmm....not really my kind of place. I much preferred NYC which, although more chaotic, had a distinct vibe, a soul, an identity I guess, which appealed to me way more.
